Annual Report 2020

Annual Report 2020

Well it has been an interesting year.  As it began, it looked like things would continue to improve but Covid-19 hit, and all plans went out the window.  With the decreased attendance at Mass, our collections have been running around 75% from the previous year, a 25% decrease that has affected how St. Michael’s operates.  We have made several cuts to staff, the remaining staff had hours or salaries reduced.  Even with these cuts, we are using about $10,000 a month from savings.  At our current rate, we will exhaust our savings by January.  The solution is either to increase income or make further cuts in services.

It’s not all bad news though.  Since we were closed in April and May, we used that time to fix the plaster in the church ceiling.  Between the special collection and the insurance, we were able to pay for the repairs.  The Friday “dogs on the lawn” has restarted and about 50 dogs and their owners are taking advantage of it each week.

Social distancing and masks are required for the people, the dogs are free to roam.  Religious Education classes have started as a combined program with St. Joseph’s and Immaculate Conception parishes.  We have 55 students enrolled and are meeting once a month in smaller classes and at-home learning is also available.  Many weddings needed to be move into 2021, we lost a few but gained a few too.  It means that the wedding season for 2021 will be remarkably busy.

So, we are not ready to close the doors yet, and with God’s help and guidance we will be able to make it through these tough times.  Please continue to support our parish with your prayers and financial contributions.

Peace,
Fr. Larry
