The Toy Drive was a wonderful success, capped by the reinstatement of the popular gift-wrapping party on December 10 after two years of Covid. Last year the entire drive was virtual, with toys ordered from wish lists on Target and Amazon or individually selected and dropped off at the Parish Office. This year we again had the opportunity to choose a tag at church for a specific child and shop with that child in mind.
Letting your fingers do the walking again proved very popular, and the office was receiving constant deliveries. Others realized that we would need cash to fill in the gaps between what we needed for the children (especially teenagers) and what people most enjoyed buying (Legos and dolls). We were again able to provide gifts for over 300 children, ranging in age from infancy to high school, through four different Catholic programs. In addition to the toys donated, the cash donations enabled us to break even. We went back online at Amazon and Target to fill in what we were still missing (caught some wonderful sales at Target!) and, just as importantly, bought enough batteries to ensure that every child’s toy was ready for immediate fun.
Thanks to all of our volunteers who organized the Toy Drive or helped wrap the gifts. And thank you so very much for your generosity and open hearts. You let these children know that someone cares about them. God bless you for reaching out to them.
