Marriages Taking Place Outside of the Country

1. If your wedding preparations will take place at St. Michael in Old Town, and you are getting married outside of the country, you must marry civilly at least three months before the wedding in the other country.  
2. At least two months before the wedding, St. Michael in Old Town will need a copy of the certified marriage certificate from the county (Cook County, DuPage County, etc.)  where you were civilly married. 
3. If you are marrying in Cook County, you need to get a Marriage License (not a civil union) from the Cook County Clerk's website.  Please note, that a civil union is not recognized by the Federal government.  Civil unions are only recognized by the State.
