As part of an area-wide collaborative called Faith Initiative Community, St. Michael has the opportunity to provide funds for a year of food and utilities for a four-person, asylum-seeking family sheltering in a nearby Church community.
Through the generosity of a parishioner committed to the cause, the first $7,500 of the funds raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar. This means that our $7,500 donation becomes $15,000!
How can you make your tax-deductible donation?
This fund will provide one year of food & utilities for an asylum-seeking family who is living in a nearby church community.
An asylum seeker is someone who claims to be a refugee but whose claim hasn’t been evaluated. This person would have applied for asylum on the grounds that returning to his or her country would lead to persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs.
Someone is an asylum seeker for so long as their application is pending. So not every asylum seeker will be recognized as a refugee, but every refugee is initially an asylum seeker.
